Tomorrow is the Peachtree Road Race. 60,000 people will make their way down Peachtree Street to Piedmont Park to earn that famous t-shirt.
I am excited to run my 12th. It is the one race I look forward to each year.
If you are running it tomorrow, make sure you stay well hydrated today. Tomorrow is suppose to be one hot, humid one.

2015 GA Publix Half Recap - It finally happened...
So yesterday was the GA Publix Half Marathon, the weather was perfect minus the crazy wind at times which made things seem colder.
I was anxious to get started or maybe I was just ready to start moving to get warm. Either way, I was ready. Even though the course is a challenge, it is still one of my favorites courses out there. A lot of it may have to do with the scenery and the spectators that come out and cheer us all on.
Before the race I met up with some fellow INKnBURN people for a group photo before heading to our corrals.
Flat Ramona ready to run the hills of Atlanta
Before the race I met up with some fellow INKnBURN people for a group photo before heading to our corrals.
The race started on time. Since I was in B, it didn't seem to take long before we were at the start line waiting for our start.
And we're off...
The first half of the race seemed to go by quickly for me. I was feeling great. My legs were happy (which is a plus seeing how I don't run a lot of hills in training).
The second half of the race I knew was going to be a challenge. The hill coming out of Piedmont Park is always a struggle as well as the last hill over by GT.
The last 3 miles of the race turned into a mental game for me. I knew what to expect. I knew to stay on track for a PR; I needed to time my short walk breaks and push through the tough hills.
Soon we were at Georgia Tech. I hate the hills over there. The very last big hill we have is about as bad as the 10th Street hill, if not worse.
I pushed myself up that hill. And now for the home stretch. Longest mile ever. I knew I needed to hold on. I kept telling myself I was only out for a quick run.
Finally, I see the brown building. I knew I was almost there. I kept looking at my watch. I was close oh so very close. I heard the announcer saying you have 20 seconds to sub-2 to the people already sprinting in.
I turn the corner. I look up and see the clock 2:00:42. I take off. Where that energy from, I have no idea but I just I knew that I had PR'd, but I also knew I had just done something I said I couldn't do on that course. I finally did a sub-2 half marathon!!!
Celebrating as I make my way to finish line!

2015 Michelob 13.1 Atlanta Recap
In July at the Peachtree Road Race Expo, I decided I was going to run the Michelob 13.1 on Oct 4th. I did the Publix Half in March, so I would be getting the Atl Challenge medal as well as the half medal.
A few days leading up to the race, we had some crazy rain that caused them to change the race course. Since I had never actually ran in that area, I didn't know what to expect even with the last minute changes. I just knew it would be hilly.
Race start promptly at 7 AM. We had a threat of rain, but luckily, it only sprinkled on us, which was refreshing.
The first few miles weren't too bad. We had a few rolling hills. But, those didn't last long. It seemed like the hills were getting longer each time we had a new one to go up. Or maybe it was just how I felt. Either way, I was about ready to be done around mile 8. Because of the course change, we had to loop back to parts of the course that we ran in the first half of the race. That was okay, and all, but the hill around mile 11 took all I had left.
I was trying to stay ahead of the 2:10 pacer, but as soon as she passed me, I knew I wasn't even going to try to catch up.
We had a little uphill finish. I will admit, I walked some of it. Once I could see the finish line, I started running. By the look on my face in my finisher photo, I was glad to be done.
I have said I won't be running this race again next year. I see no point. I hated that course with a passion. I may consider volunteering for it, but I won't be running it.
One of my main complaints was the lack of water. I later found out because of the rain that was being brought in from the hurricane a lot of stuff wasn't able to get here in time. I normally run with a water bottle but decided not to this race. Next time I ever have any doubt, I will just bring it.

2015 AJC Peachtree Road Race Recap
It's hard to believe this race came and went. It was only a few months ago that I was registering for this race.
A few days leading up to the race they were predicting rain. Running in the rain isn't my favorite, but after doing a half marathon in the rain I knew that this wasn't going to be a problem.
Race morning arrives. I parked about a mile from the start. I used that little walk as a warm up. Last year I ran a slow mile but since the sidewalk was missing in some areas I didn't want to risk rolling my ankle before the race,
The rain was holding for the most part. It was sprinkling here and there but nothing too crazy. I was set to start at 7:41 AM.
We started right on time. Since the roads were very wet, I decided just to take it easy. I have PR'd before on this course but knew that this wasn't going to happen. I didn't want to risk getting hurt.
Mile 1-3 had gone by quickly and before I knew it was climbing the crazy hill by Shepherd's Center. Even with the rain the patients were still out there cheering us on.
Around mile 4 is when I saw a streak of lightning in front of me followed by some thunder. Not what I wanted.
After that, the flags went from yellow to red.
Sometime after the first streak is when I saw lightning again. I am pretty sure this is the one that probably delayed the start of the waves behind me. I knew I was almost finished and that Mother Nature wasn't going to stop me from finishing.
I decided to speed up. Mile 5 came and went, and now I was turning on to 10th street. Past the marathon foto guys at the fake finish line.
Just a bit more to go.
And finished. Peachtree Road Race #11 in the books.
I grabbed my water and shirt. Got a cold rag and a dry one (to dry off my hands so I could use my phone). I had a few friends from the Suwanee Big Peach Running group running, so I went over to the meeting place to see them.

Kimmie, myself, Paula, and Michael
After getting photos, we decided to head over to the ATC tent at Park Tavern to see what was going on. Ended up with some awesome coffee mugs.
As much as I wanted to hang out and see my Mom finish her 10th Peachtree, I couldn't. I was cold. I had no dry clothes with me. I sent her a text telling her to head to Marta and that I would pick her up at the station.
Paula, Kimmie, and Michael all went back to their hotel to freshen up before heading to lunch at Uncle Julio's for some much-needed food.
This Peachtree was a fun one. One I won't forget. I will be back next year to run my 12th. I am determined to make it to 20 without missing a year.

2015 GA Publix Half Recap
Second half marathon of 2015. I've been excited about this since registration in 2014.
They started predicting rain a few days before the race. I was hoping it wouldn't do anything until after, but, unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans.
I got to the race 45 minutes before the start. Spent that time getting my headphones, phone, and gels ready to put in my FlipBelt.
A friend found me about 15 minutes before the started and handed me a trash bag to use while waiting in my corral. Thank goodness for that. Kept me dry until it was time to start.
Even though I am not a fan of running in the rain, it felt fantastic out there. The first half of the race went by pretty quick. It wasn't raining so that helped. I did have to keep my eye on the puddles in Atlanta since I didn't want to get my feet drenched before I was even half-way through.
The crowd support was incredible despite the weather. So thankful for that.
Before I knew it, I was more than half way. The rain started to pick up a little bit around Piedmont Park but wasn't enough to slow me down. I kept gone going.
Between GT and Centennial Park, I was getting tired. I knew I wasn't going to PR. So I told my myself to push for a course PR. I did just that. I finished with a time of 2:05. Course PR. Last year's time was 2:09.

June
Where did this month go? It just seems like yesterday it was June 1st. Holy cow.
In 4 days, I will be running down Peachtree with 59,999 over runners. I can't wait. But am I ready? I sure hope so. I haven't trained like I normally do for this race. I have been doing little to no miles during the week and long runs on the weekend. I don't even need to do the long runs, but I want to keep my fitness up there so I can sign up and run a half marathon at any time. Makes sense, right?
Whether I am ready or not, I know I will have a blast running the Peachtree Road Race. I am also excited to see my Mom finish her 10th one. Crazy to think she started this a year after I did. She loves it though, and I am happy to see her doing it. Walking or running, she is out there getting exercise and having fun.
Tomorrow, my GA Publix recap goes live. I will be working on finishing up the Princess recap as soon as I can. I know, I know, a few months late. I promise I will get it up. It may be a bunch of pictures, but it's better than nothing, right?

2015 Peach Jam Half Recap
I am starting to wonder if I should stop running half marathons in April because it always seems to rain the days leading up to it. Like last year, we had to worry about rain the day of the race. Luckily, the rain stopped the night before.
The race took place on the Big Creek Greenway out in Cumming, GA. It started and finished at Fowler Park.
The race started at 7:30 sharp. We took off from the parking lot making our way down to the greenway.
It was bit congested until about mile one then it started to thin out.
We had a few puddles and one big one that I remember from last year. I decided I didn't want to run through it quite yet, so I decided to slow down and tip toe quickly through the mud.
With this race, you don't have that crowd support so it's a mental game out there. Once we were coming up on the turnaround, I saw a friend from the local running group. She took my picture and cheered me on.
Three miles down. I was thinking to myself, "Why am I doing this again??". I kept pushing through.
Another than the mental game, I was feeling pretty good with the run. I was keeping my pace constant.
Around mile 8, I started chatting with another runner who was running her first half.
We ended up staying together for the rest of the race. She thanked me for pacing her and keeping her motivated to keep going. It was nice to have someone to talk to.
I didn't PR this time around, but it's okay. I got to help pace someone cross the finish line of their first half.
Oh and the most important thing of all and why I ended up signing up for this race......

2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race Recap
I am just now getting to this one. Better late than never, right?
This Peachtree was a special one for me. It was my 10th time running it without missing a year. I had been looking forward to it since last years race.
After a humid first half of the week, I was worried that race day was going to be bad. Luckily, it wasn't. I wouldn't say it was perfect running weather but it's darn close to it especially for a July race.
Since this my 10th race, Mike decided he was going to come to the race and be at the finish line waiting for me.

Flat Ramona is ready to rock the Peachtree Road Race
The race day started pretty early for us. Met Kat and Eric at one of the Marta stations so we could get a mile warm up in before running 6.2 miles down Peachtree Street.
After our quick mile jog down to the corrals, we stopped for a picture before we each went our separate ways until after the race.
Before I knew it, I was slowly making my way to the start line where I would be starting my 10th PRR.
I was so excited to get started. This is one of my favorite races to do even though I am not racing anyone except for myself.
This particular race goes by fast for me. The crowd support is amazing. One of the best out there.
Running down 10 street almost to the finish line.
After the race, I met up with some of my running friends from the Suwanee Big Peach Running group for a quick photo.
Then I met up with Jen and Brandi for a quick photo and since I had not received my medal yet, Jen was kind enough to let me get a photo with it on.
Here is the finisher's shirt that every participate receives. I love not knowing what design won until I open up my race bag and see the shirt after the race.
Here's a close up of the commemorative medal that you can order or buy at the expo.
Peachtree Road Race #11 will be here before I know. I am excited to run it again this year. I'll also get to see my Mom finish her 10th.

Thanks, AJC Peachtree Road Race facebook page for the picture.
I am not a fan of two of them (the Seal and Diagonal Lines). The more I keep looking at the designs, the more I like Americana and Freedom Runner. Vintage is fine too just not one of my favorites. Which one or ones do you like?
To go and vote click here.
I can't wait until July 4th to see which one is chosen!

2015 Peachtree Road Race Registration
The 2015 Peachtree Road Race registration starts this weekend for the ATC members. Hard to believe it's already time to do that. I will be running my 11th straight race. I thought about not running it, but I want to be there to see my Mom finish her 10th. And to think I was the one who got her to do this race each year and she has stuck with it. :)
If you aren't a member of the ATC and want to run the race on July 4th, the lottery will open March 15th and close March 22nd at 11:59 PM.

Races
What races do you have planned right now for 2015?
I'm currently registered for the Glass Slipper Challenge and the GA Publix Half. I am looking at doing the Chattahoochee Challenge 10K and the AJC Peachtree Road Race 10K. Like I mentioned in my previous post I am not going to be racing as much.

2014 Atlanta 10 Miler Recap
After the Michelob 13.1, I decided I would sign up for the Atlanta 10 Miler. I wanted to run it last year, but had already made plans to spectate the Atlanta Halloween Half.
October 26th came before I knew it. I thought I was prepared for it especially after running 8 miles the weekend before, but on my last run before the race I noticed some pain in my IT Band.
Because of my injury, I went into the race with a game plan. If I felt any discomfort or pain, I would stop and walk some.
The race started at 7:40 (10 minutes after it was suppose to because of a car accident on the major highway near by).
Miles 1-6 were rolling hills. Some worse than others.
At mile 7, we turned onto Peachtree St to enter into the Mizuno Cardiac Hill Challenge. If you aren't familiar with Cardiac Hill, its a gradual hill that takes place south of Piedmont Hospital and the Shepherd Center. Unfortunately for us this challenge took place a little further down the road from Cardiac Hill. I guess they wanted it to last a full mile. Not sure but the first hill was definitely not Cardiac Hill. We finally finished the challenge at mile 8. Only 2 miles to go!
The last two miles went by fast and before I knew it I was crossing the finish line. I didn't run as fast as I would have liked, but I can't complain too much about the time.

Slacker
I noticed today that I have been slacking on recaps. My most recent one is done I just need to add some photos. The other two...well, I really don't remember the races, but I will try my best. I am hoping in 2015 I won't be so busy that I can blog about my running.
Here's a little update on myself...
I am currently done running my big races for 2014. I may even be done racing for the year. Not sure yet. I did do a lot this year. I really challenged my body more than I had planned on doing.
I am hoping to take it easy next year. I do have two half marathons scheduled earlier in the year, but after that...I may just stick to running when I feel like it. Let's face it...I miss loving to run. Yes, training for races gets me out the door, but it also seems like a job at times. I am constantly having to plan stuff around my training or races. Plus it expensive. I would like to try and save some next year. Fingers crossed I can do just that.
So what's on your running schedule for the rest of 2014?

2014 Michelob 13.1 Recap
Besides the Hotlanta Half, this half was pretty brutal especially that last hill at the end. I wasn't able to PR on this course, but I did manage to beat my time from my first half (which happened to take place a year ago that weekend). First half (Allstate 13.1): 2:07:56 and fifth half (Michelob 13.1): 2:07:20.
I also completed the Atlanta Challenge that weekend. :)
I really don't remember too much about this race other than the hill at the end, so I will leave you with some photos that were taken after the race.

2014 Hotlanta Half Race Recap
This race really lived up to its name. It goes with the Big Peach RunAtl shirt which says "Heat, Hills, Humidity".
Since the race starts and finishes at Underground Atlanta, Mike and I decided instead of taking Marta that we would just drive down and park in one of the local parking garages.
Shortly after we arrived Brandi and her Mom, Karen, showed up. We hung out with them for a bit before I went over to meet my running group from Suwanee Big Peach.
Race started right at 7:30
I decided I was going to run with a bunch of my Suwanee Big Peach friends. I normally like running alone but with this race I decided to do things a bit different. :)
Since Paula was doing intervals, I decided I would stick with her. I wasn't about time for this race. I just wanted to go out there and have fun.
First half of the race was went pretty well, but the second half of the race was an up hill battle. I will say I probably cursed every hill after Piedmont Park.
Paula and I decided that if the hills were too much that we would walk them.
Before we knew it we were at mile 12, but unfortunately for us we had an up hill finish...
The course was a little short. Our GPS watches were on spot until the Beltline. Not sure what happened after that.
We finished with a time of 2:19 which is a lot faster than Paula had planned.
After the race, we got a photo of some of the Suwanee Big Peach finishers with our medals on...
Will I do this race again? Not sure. It was HOT out there. Running a half in August is a bit crazy if you ask me.

One thing I loved about this race is the spinner medal and shirt. :)
