Atlanta Women's 5k 2013

The Atlanta Women's 5k run will take place on March 23rd, 2013 at Candler Park. I have to say this place is absolutely beautiful. (Probably why I keep doing the race?)

This will be my 3rd year doing this run. There is nothing like a friendly competition with other ladies instead of having to compete with the guys. One of the best things about the race is receiving a lovely flower at the end of the race. Added this year we will get a smart glass necklace (a $60 value). How cool is that? I am pretty excited to get a new tech shirt, flower, and smart glass necklace this year.

If any ladies are interested go to http://www.atlantatrackclub.org/events/view/2013-atlanta-womens-5k and register.

You definitely won't be disappointed...promise!

Quick Update

Normally I would do Insanity today, but I decided that I needed a day to rest. Like I mentioned in my previous post my shins have been giving me some problems. They don't bother me if I am just walking just when I start jumping around (in Insanity) or running. Hope tomorrow is a better run day.

So after looking around yesterday I'm thinking I might go with the Saucony Virrata's. I have read some reviews on them and so far they are winning me over. I just need to go to a shoe store around here and try them on and make sure they actually feel comfortable to me.

Of course I am still going to keep looking at Nike's because that's all I have ever used. I know I can get something to put a sensor in if I need to use my sensor for my runs.

Whatever I decide on I just hope they will last me as long as my current ones have.

Shin Splits..ouch!

I think its time for some new shoes. Or maybe I need the warmer weather to hurry up. Either way I need to get some new running shoes (223 miles on the shoes right now). Today while I was running at the gym on the treadmill I noticed that my shin splits were giving me more problems then they have in my previous runs. I had to stop and walk for a little before finishing up my last mile.

So hopefully this weekend or the next I will be going out and getting a new pair of running shoes. I just need to decide on which brand. I normally run in Nike's because of the Nike+ sensor I have. If I have to, I will go with another brand. I just want something comfortable yet not too heavy. I hate running in heavy shoes.

I am hoping by getting a new pair of running shoes this will help me out. Plus it will be getting warmer soon so that will probably help as well. I think the treadmill is messing up my running form. :-\

Made Shaun T's Cookies..

This past weekend I decided I would make Shaun T's Peanut Butter Ricotta Cheese Cookies. And I failed to get a picture of them after they were done baking. :( I will say they were delicious. It was different from your normal cookie. I didn't feel guilty for eating them either. :) I will be making them again. If you haven't already try it out.

Shaun T's Oatmeal and Peanut Butter Ricotta Cheese Cookies

So yesterday I was excited to watch Shaun T on the Dr Oz Show. Before he showed off a new exercise for people to do in only 15 minutes, he went over foods that would be good to eat to help you lose weight along with exercise. One of the things that really stuck out to me was the oatmeal and peanut butter ricotta cheese cookies. I absolutely love cookies, but hate that guilty feeling I get after eating them. I try to avoid a lot of sugar as much as possible because I found cutting my sugars and carbs back helped me lose weight along with exercise.

I can not wait to make these this weekend. Here is Shaun T's recipe for those yummy cookies, and just think you won't have to feel guilty after eating them either! :)

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp natural peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/4 cup reduced-fat ricotta cheese
  • 2 packets(or to taste) Stevia
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp flaxseed
  • 1 egg white
  • Dash of cinnamon

Directions
Preheat oven  350°F Degrees

Line pan with parchment paper

Mix everything with a fork, pressing to mash ricotta cheese

Spoon 5 cookies into pan

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until tops of cookies start to brown

Makes 5 cookies

Once I make these I'll do a little review on how good they are.. :)

Training, training, and more training

I have been a bad, bad blogger. I have been super busy working out. I haven't really stepped up my game quite yet since my next race isn't until March 17th. After next week I will be back to pushing myself more. Hopefully it will be a lot warmer too!

Insanity has been a major help. I love switching up my work out route every other day. Yesterday I really pushed myself that I am so sore. It's a good feeling though. I know I actually working out those muscles. I just hope that it will all pays off again.. :)

Hearts and Soles 5k 2013

Yesterday was my first 5k of this year. I've been working my tail off the past couple of weeks trying to get ready for it. After suffering a big blister the weekend before I wasn't even sure if I was going to be able to participate in it.

My unofficial time was 27:57 according to Nike+. My official time was 27:54, so close enough.

I am hoping that my next race Cutie's 5k will be way better.

Hoping to upload some pictures from the race my next post so stay tuned!
